Some investments aren’t measured by financial returns.
They’re measured by the laughter of children, the comfort of families, and the hope that can be found in places where it has become increasingly difficult to find.
That’s the spirit behind a new international service project led by members of Boulder Rotary Club, including Generosity Wealth Management founder Michael Brady, alongside fellow Rotarian Bill Meyer and Rotary partners in Ukraine and the Netherlands. Together, they’re helping create something remarkably simple—but profoundly meaningful—for children receiving rehabilitation care in Vinnytsia, Ukraine.
A Need Discovered Through Relationships
Earlier this year, Michael traveled to Vinnytsia shortly after the City of Boulder formally established a Sister City relationship with the Ukrainian community. During his visit, he met with members of the Rotary Club “Vinnytsia Initiative,” where conversations quickly turned from introductions to identifying meaningful ways the two communities could work together.
One need stood out immediately.
The Vinnytsia Regional Medical Center for Children’s Rehabilitation serves hundreds of children each year living with neurological and musculoskeletal disorders, disabilities, and trauma related to the ongoing war. While the hospital provides specialized medical care, it lacked something many of us might take for granted—a secure outdoor space where children could safely play, move, and simply enjoy being kids.
For these young patients, outdoor activity isn’t simply recreation.
It is recognized as an important part of emotional regulation, physical rehabilitation, and psychological healing.
More Than a Playground
The project will transform an enclosed courtyard at the hospital into a therapeutic recreation area designed specifically for children receiving inpatient treatment.
Plans include:
- A secure fenced courtyard that allows children to spend time outdoors safely.
- Rubber safety surfacing to reduce the risk of injury.
- Play structures and movement equipment that encourage coordination and physical activity.
- Comfortable seating areas for families, therapists, and art therapy.
- Indoor activity space that can be used when weather prevents outdoor play.
The thoughtfully designed space is expected to benefit approximately 650 to 750 children every year, creating opportunities for movement, sensory integration, therapy, and moments of normalcy during incredibly challenging circumstances.
A Global Effort
While Michael and Bill Meyer helped lead the initiative from Boulder, the project represents what can happen when communities work together across borders.
Funding was assembled through a collaborative effort involving:

- Rotary Club Horst aan de Maas in the Netherlands

What began as conversations between Rotarians quickly grew into an international partnership dedicated to improving the lives of children thousands of miles away. The project reached its approximately $15,000 fundraising goal, allowing construction to move forward during the summer and fall of 2026.
